Privacy Policy

A plain-language account of what Thumbster.ai stores and what it does not.

Last updated: 7 October 2026

The short version

If you play without an account

Your test runs in your browser and the result is not saved by us. If you finish a test and have not signed in, the result is held in your own browser’s storage so that it can be saved if you create an account within the hour. After that it is ignored. It never leaves your device unless you sign up.

What we store when you have an account

Your sign-in details

Your email address, used to send you a sign-in code and to identify your account. We do not use passwords. A sign-in token is kept in your browser’s storage so you stay signed in.

Your profile

Your test results

For each test you save: words per minute, accuracy, number of errors, counts of characters and keystrokes, the test length and the time it was completed. We do not store the text you typed.

A general device type for each result

Thumbster is a phone typing competition, so each saved result is marked Official or Practice depending on the kind of device it was typed on. To decide that, your browser sends a few general signals with the result: whether the browser describes itself as mobile, whether the device has a touchscreen, whether the main pointer is a finger or a mouse, and the approximate size of the screen. Our server compares these with the browser information that comes with every web request.

What we keep is the outcome and a coarse summary: phone, tablet, desktop or unknown; the operating system family; whether the device reported a touchscreen and a finger pointer; and whether the screen was phone-sized. We do not keep your browser’s full identifying string or your exact screen size for this purpose, and we do not build a fingerprint of your device. More about official scores.

What we do not collect

What other people can see

How we use this information

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising. Thumbster does not currently run adverts or third-party analytics trackers. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.

Companies that help us run the service

We use other companies to host the website and database, to handle sign-in and to deliver sign-in emails. They process information on our behalf so the service can work, and like any web service they may keep routine technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and reliability.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and scores until you ask us to delete them. When an account is deleted, its profile, scores and challenge links are removed with it.

Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us and we will do our best to help.

Children

Thumbster is a general-audience site and is not directed at young children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top.
